Merry Christmas!

I am posting this message on all of my blogs this morning. I am making myself take a vacation from blogging. I have been working 6 and sometimes 7 days a week for a year and it is time to give it a rest. My mind and body need it. But it will be hard to stay off of the computer! Jeez! I did not know how addicted I was to the internet until my computer crashed last month. However, if I do get online I have made myself a promise that it will only be for fun, no blogging until the day after Christmas, no reading about blogging or making money, no social networking unless its just for fun. I have turned into a workaholic and this workaholic MUST take some time off! I am going to read, watch movies, and eat! I have a bad cold and I am going to give myself the TLC I need so that I can be bright eyed and bushy tailed come the new year! 2008 is going to be a great year, I just feel it. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Christmas and I will see you next week!

Cowboys Lose Their Butts

The Dallas Cowboys have been kicking butt all season, but this past Sunday they played like a bunch of cowgirls, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles, whose record was a paltry 5-8 compared to Dallas' record of 12-1. Word on the street and across the internet is that Jessica Simpson, Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo's girlfriend, being in the stands distracted him. I think they is a lot of horse dookie. A whole team has to play a game, not just the quarterback. Besides, I was watching and Romo played no worse than his teammates, who were ALL bad. I am hoping this was just a shakeup that the Cowboys needed since they have done nothing but shine all season long.

Shades of Nixon in George Bush

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, George W. Bush said today that he did not know about the destruction of CIA videotapes of detainee interrogations. The president said he was told just a few days ago. YEAH, RIGHT! That's what also what tricky Dick said about Watergate.   "My first recollection of whether the tapes existed or whether they were destroyed was when [CIA director] Michael Hayden briefed me," Bush told ABC News' Martha Raddatz. "There's a preliminary inquiry going on and I think you'll find that a lot more data, facts will be coming out," he said. "That's good. It will be interesting to know what the true facts are."  I wish this guy would finally get his. What ever happened to outrage??

Severe Midwest Ice Storms cripple life

Monday storms pummeled the states of Missouri and Illinois Monday, leaving half a million homes and businesses without electricity. Thousands of other people were blacked out. In some areas service may not be restored for a week. (I couldn't even imagine. Thank God I live in Texas!)  But this is horrible news! As many as 22 deaths were attributed to the storm, most of them in traffic accidents. I don't understand why people insist on driving when they absolutely don't have to in this kind of weather.  And Oklahoma and Iowa are getting their fair share of bad weather too. The Tulsa airport lost power on Monday and halted operation. The airport at Des Moines, Iowa was also shut due to ice accumulation. Even Greyhound bus passengers had to spend the night at a church shelter in Tulsa after downed power lines made major roads impassible.  States of emergency were declared in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri and snow was expected to follow the ice in some areas. Schools and businesses were closed in those regions where power was interrupted.

Are You Sure You Want a Tattoo?

Though many tattoos, like the ones above, are beautiful, you might want to think twice about whether you want one or not after reading this really great article in the health section of The New York Times about the question of health risks from the ink used in making tattoos. For years the tattoo business has been left alone by the Food and Drug Administration. Tattoo parlors have only had to answer to state and local authorities. However, the inks used in tattoos are subject to F.D.A. rules for cosmetics and color additives.

However, The F.D.A., after admitting that they have never paid much attention to the issue, they are changing their tune a bit with a new report called Think Before You Ink.  The agency was prompted to write this report after they received reports of bad reactions to tattoo inks years after the procedure was performed. People say their tattoos itch or become inflamed in the summer after being in the sun. The F.D.A.'s Arkansas-based National Center for Toxicological Research is investigating the chemicals used in tattoo inks and how they break down in the body, how the inks interact with light and the short- and long-term safety of pigments used in tattoo inks.

Romney to Give Religious Speech

This I think will be a first, or at least the first in a very long time. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is running for president and he is taking a very big risk when he delivers a speech on religious faith at the George H. W. Bush library on Thursday. His Mormon faith has been an underlying theme of his presidential candidacy but not until now has he been bold enough to share his religious views. They say don't mix politics and religion. I'm curious to see how this goes over. "I can tell you I'm not going to be talking so much about my faith as I am talking about the religious heritage of our country and the role in which it played in the founding of the nation and the role which I think religion should generally play today in our society," Romney said in an interview with radio station WBZ-AM.

Paris Hilton on Ellen

Paris Hilton was on Ellen today and I have to say, no matter what has been said about her in the press, and Lord has there been a lot, this young lady never seems to lose her cool. Well, there was that one time when she learned that she was actually going to have to really go to jail that she flipped, but hey, who wouldn't? I like Paris. I have liked her ever since I watched her and Nicole Richie on The Simple Life. I think Paris is much more grounded than people believe. I guess growing up in the spotlight has made her used to it.

OnStar Slows Down Stolen Cars

Now this is genius! OnStar, the in-vehicle navigation system and robot brain announced a new stolen vehicle service, which will allow security advisors to slow stolen vehicles by sending a remote signal that reduces the flow of fuel to the engine. Is that cool or what? This will debut with some 2009 GM models. About 1.6 million cars, about two-thirds of them Chevrolets, will come equipped with the service. The way it works is that the driver will report the theft, then call OnStar to request Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance, which relies on GPS for precise tracking. Once police have caught up with the vehicle, they can ask OnStar advisors to slow it down remotely. OnStar says that it has safeguards to ensure that advisors target the correct vehicle. A remote signal interacts with the powertrain system to decrease the fuel flow. Genius, I say!

We Live in a Recycled World

I wrote an article on my freelancing blog this morning challenging myself to write only original content, content that can't be found anywhere else online, tips, advice, and information about writing, blogging and making money online that hasn't been done to death. This is going to be a major challenge and the only real way I can come up with something that hasn't been covered is to offer my personal opinions on these subjects.  But while I was writing that article it occurred to me that everything is recycled. We live in a recycled world. Fashions return, the same celebrities play different parts in movies, morals that were once considered important, then abandoned, are returning. We didn't invent recycling with environmental consciousness, it was here all along.

eHarmony Free Over Labor Day Weekend

I learned from one of my fellow Gack Inkers that eHarmony, a dating site that she said is quite expensive otherwise, is having a deal this weekend. You get to sign up for free AND be able to communicate with your matches through Monday, Labor Day, Sept. 3rd. So of course I rush over there and go through the whole personality profile test and what happens? They come back and say that they can't help me, that they have no matches for me. They said that 1 out of 5 people who apply this happens to. Well! I guess that confirms it. I AM unique.
